Web Design Case Studies: Momentum

final web designMomentum is a design and communications company that provides branding, brochures, print advertising, and video to a sophisticated range of clients. The agency has continued to grow and has many requests for its portfolio. With each new proposal, Momentum either sent out samples of its work, that was never returned, or shipped its hardbound portfolio in both directions. The agency needed a way to show off its work and reduce the time it took to get a response.

Dan Finney Design, Inc., designed a web site that was clean and simple so Momentum's work would stand out. Flash was used to provide motion and sound to the layout. Custom sound was produced in a recording studio to "read" the buttons on the homepage as the visitor's mouse passed over them. A rocket sound was added when the mouse glided over the toy rocket photo. We took samples of Momentum's printed brochures and produced digital product photography on each page.

When the design process starts, the first thing we do is discover the client's needs, goals and approach. Then we present a few design variations based on that discovery process. Of the choices, Momentum liked the clean look of Design #2. Another discussion began and a few changes were made to give us the final results.

The new site allows Momentum to quickly showcase its work and reduces the number of requests for the hard copy of its portfolio. Momentum can use the site as a discussion tool with out-of-state clients in a moment's notice. Visit the Momentum web site.
